BD4NRG (“Big Data for Next Generation Energy”), a project founded under the Horizon 2020 European Research Programme, and in which Studio Legale E-Lex is a partner, announces the launch of the BD4NRG Open Call, which is open by the 20 September 2022 and closes on the 15 December 2022 at 17:00h CET. Applicants are invited to submit their applications for granting a funding up to 60K!

BD4NRG is looking for Big-data governance and analytical applications in the energy sector (innovative solutions and prototypes under BD4NRG’s three main pillars BD4-NET, BD4-DER, BD4-ENEF)

BD4NRG envisions to give a competitive edge to improve decision-making and open new market opportunities in energy sector. Its goal is to unlock and exploit the economic potential of big data and give energy sector stakeholders the opportunity to improve their business operational performance.

To achieve its vision and address the emerging challenges in big data management, BD4NRG partners work on developing, adapting, delivering and deploying a distributed big data energy analytics framework. The BD4NRG Framework will offer edge processing, federated Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, focusing on operating a data-driven energy ecosystem tools and open APIs.

BD4NRG Open Call is looking for up to 10 SMEs and Start-ups that will introduce new services by integrating and making use of the services and data offered through the BD4NRG platform.

SMEs and Startups

The call is open for SMEs and Start-ups established in an EU Member State or in an Associated Country (as stated in Article 7 of the Horizon 2020 Regulation). Only single entities are eligible. The legal entity is required to possess a validated PIC – Participant Identification Code (this code is provided for interested parties to participate in EU funding programmes and procurements). Each successful applicant will receive a maximum of 60 000 euros funding.


Developing innovative solutions and prototypes under BD4NRG’s three main pillars for electricity network operation, Distributed Energy Resources and energy efficiency in buildings.


The topics that the proposals shall address are:

  1. Efficiency and reliability of electricity networks operation improvement

  2. Optimisation of grid and distributed assets

  3. Energy efficiency investments planning

  4. Cross-Cutting Applications.
